Float Construction Progress and Work Days

ONLY a few days remain before 1st Parade, still more work to be done. Get with Peter Flynn about possible days you can help out.

Float Construction Progress: (Currently about 97% Complete)

• 10/24/2004 - Completed almost all of Village, Sound, and Interior Painting.
• 10/23/2004 - Continued work on: Sound, Village, Dragon.
• 10/18/2004 - Worked on Painting exterior village, singles, meadows.
• 10/17/2004 - Continued working on float at Rustic Steel
• 10/10/2004 - More work done on Dragon by Rustic Steel Creations, plus additional painting.
• 10/04/2004 - Float relocating to Rustic Steel to have Dragon built and installed. NOTE: All future work days to be held at Rustic Steel in Tampa until further notice.
• 10/02/2004 - Castle construction and village in continued.
• 9/24/2004 - Castle construction and village in continued.
• 9/23/2004 - Castle construction and village in progress.
• 9/19/2004 - Test run of float in downtown Ybor to check dimensions against street signs and lights ( success ) PIC1 PIC2
• 9/18/2004 - Additional panels mounted and some additional painting.
• 8/30/2004 to 9/17/2004 - Due To Holidays and multiple hurricanes construction was halted.
• 08/29/2004 - Frame painting completed, Castle panel mounting started ( PIC1, PIC2, PIC3 )
• 08/23/2004 - Side Panels mounted and parts of frame prepared for painting.
• 08/22/2004 - Side Panels cut and prepared for mounting.
• 08/15/2004 - Welded sections together, cleaned and treated metal.
• 07/19/2004 - Dragon figure voted on by board, construction will be done by Rustic Steel. ( Click here see Picture ).
• 07/08/2004 - General Membership Meeting, design was voted on and Approved.
• 07/08/2004 - Dan Francis with Unistrut donated structrual steel for rails and frame. Bob Paterson will be welding together a steel railing and framework to support the village and castle. Bob is also building a Dolly that will support the front of the float to allow for easier towing.
• 07/04/2004 - Dragon design voted on by the board, construction to be done by Rustic Steel.
• 06/27/2004 - Float moved to Trick Fabrication on Hubert St, Tampa, located by Dan Francis. Owner, Bob Patton, is a Rough Rider and has worked on numerious floats including 2003 winner (Unsinkable Molly Brown float).
• 06/13/2004 - Float Committee purchased 40ft trailer. (turned out to be 50ft trailer). Located by Bob Gardner, down payment made by Dan Francis. (Click here to See Pic)

ITEMS TO BRING TO FLOAT CONSTRUCTION WORK DAY:

• Personal: 1) Lots of WATER, 2) Sunscreen, 3) Bugspray.
• TOOLS: (if you have them, okay if you don't): Cordless Drill, Saw, Handtools, etc.
• DRESS: Light clothes, long pants (mesquitos), closed toe shoes, work gloves if you feel the need (remember it's a construction environment).
